4 Signs Your RO System Is Due for Maintenance
Families living with an RO filter can enjoy some great benefits with their drinking water! To get the most out of your filtration system, though, it’s important to watch out for some general RO system maintenance.
When’s the Right Time for RO System Repairs?
We love RO filters because they give us peace of mind that our drinking water is pure and contaminant-free. It’s also great knowing that we’re doing our part to reduce plastic waste. (There’s no reason to buy disposable water bottles when what we have at the tap is totally clean and way more cost-effective!)
These filtration systems are designed to be fuss-free. So if you’re noticing any of these signs, a quick repair can help get your filter back on track.
1. RO Water Tasting Funny
Pure water is odorless, and it won’t have any odd tastes. If the RO water coming out of your faucet doesn’t match that description, then the filters are likely due for a replacement. RO systems are designed to remove even the toughest contaminants. But it can’t do its job if the filters have been overused.
RO membranes will typically last between two and five years, and depending on your family’s water usage, the various pre-filters may need to be swapped out within one year or six months. Make a note to replace the filters regularly. Also, consider draining the RO tank if your water is tasting funny. Then the system can fill back up with pure, fresh water.
2. Filtration System Pressure
If you’re having to wait longer and longer to fill up a glass of water, then there might be an issue with the RO tank pressure. Sometimes this is caused by clogged filters. Other times it’s happening because the RO tank itself isn’t filling up properly. The pressure from the RO filters might need to be lowered. A repair technician can help you out!
3. RO System Starting to Leak
Like with any water-using appliance, you never want to see leaks around your system. The good news, though, is that this usually just comes down to a faulty connection that needs to be tightened rather than a total malfunction. If the RO water faucet is leaking, for example, then you might be looking at an “air gap leak” that needs to be secured. And once that’s fixed, the water flow should improve too.
4. Weird Gurgles and Noise
Does it seem like your system has been running for days? That could mean you’re getting too much water flowing through the drain line. An RO system that’s constantly draining will definitely be a little noisy. Not only that, it’s also wasting water. Scheduling a repair can stop the problem from getting worse and give you a little more peace and quiet.
