Hello, Westside Neighbors!

Our softeners and drinking water filters work great for both commercial and residential use. Whether you’re looking to buy or rent, or just need repairs, we’ll be happy to help you out.

Part of Your Community

Since 1964, Indy Soft Water has worked to provide quality softener and filtration services to clients all over the greater Indianapolis area. Our company is family-owned, environmentally-focused, and driven by our loyal customers. We always strive to give you the best experience possible.

We enjoy being active in our community and love supporting great causes. In 2016, we teamed up with Peace Learning Center, a local non-profit that provides outreach education on the values of respect, dignity, and dialogue. We gave 1% of our new sales in September to PLC, and we’ve also supplied them with a safe drinking water fountain for the kiddos in their programs. These folks are doing some truly amazing work—it’s been such a feel good for us!

Indy Soft Water has also taken on the title and responsibility of “water sponsor” for Greening the Statehouse 2016. This annual event highlights some of the top environmental issues for Indiana, and we’re excited to get in on the action. We’ve offered up our handy bottle-free water coolers to help keep attendees hydrated—without the plastic waste. (We’re all about creating a Bottle Free Indy!)

About Avon’s Water

Most of Avon actually falls into the “Indianapolis” service area for Citizens Water. Their treatment plants work to filter out certain contaminants from our source water, but the process isn’t exactly fail-proof. Using chlorine as a disinfectant comes with some side effects.

Chlorine is great at killing bacteria in our water, but it can inadvertently add some other stuff too. Collectively, those substances are called “organic disinfection by-products.” The scientific names for them are haloacetic acids (HAAs) and total trihalomethanes (TTHMs)—but we typically refer to them as “Volatile Organic Compounds,” or VOCs.

According to the 2015 Water Quality Report, water for the Avon and Indianapolis area had a high average for HAAs and TTHMs. At times, the measurements were even over the maximum contaminant level limit. TTHMs averaged 69 ppb for an 80 ppb goal, but some measurements even reached all the way to 91 ppb. HAAs averaged close to their 60 ppb goal at 56 ppb. Even then, some counts went up to 96 ppb—60% over the goal.

The problem with having VOCs present in tap water is that a lot of them are considered carcinogenic. So if you’re drinking plain tap water, you can be putting you and your family’s health at risk. It’s best to filter your drinking water at home, right at your own tap. The best filtration setups can effectively get rid of any VOCs that the chlorine might have left. They can even take of any iron, copper, or lead that your water might have picked up in the pipes while traveling from the treatment center to your faucet.

About Plainfield’s Water

As with most of Indiana, tap water in Plainfield is usually pretty hard. Because it contains high levels of dissolved calcium and magnesium minerals, Plainfield water often leaves hard scale deposits on faucets and showerheads. You might also see water spots on clean dishes or feel like your clothes and laundry are scratchy and rough. All of these are signs of hard water.

It’s also important to note that some of the water sources for Plainfield are ground water wells, which often contain higher levels of iron and manganese. While some treatment methods can help reduce these counts, additional filtration might be needed for this type of tap water. High iron and manganese levels can stain tubs and sinks, and can even add a metallic taste to water.

By filtering water at your own tap, it’s easy to have a safe drinking water supply year-round. The right filters can remove dissolved minerals or metals from your water, and even take care of other tricky contaminants like lead and microbes.

The best water systems often work together. When you pair a softener with a new drinking water filter, you can get high-quality water at every tap!
