Indianapolis

Hello, Indy Neighbors!

Since 1964, Indy Soft Water has been serving the water softener and filtration needs of clients all over the greater Indianapolis area. As a family-owned company, we’re so grateful to have the support of all our loyal customers! We always strive to give you the best experience possible.

Our clients are our neighbors. We work with local small business owners, larger commercial clients, and families all over the city. Whether you want to buy a filtration system, rent a softener, or just need some quick repairs, we’ll be happy to help.

Part of Your Community

We enjoy being active in our community and love supporting great causes. In 2016, we teamed up with Peace Learning Center, a local non-profit that provides outreach education on the values of respect, dignity, and dialogue. We gave 1% of our new sales in September to PLC, and we’ve also supplied them with a safe drinking water fountain for the kiddos in their programs. These folks are doing some truly amazing work—it’s been such a feel good for us!

Indy Soft Water has also taken on the title and responsibility of “water sponsor” for Greening the Statehouse 2016. This annual event highlights some of the top environmental issues for Indiana, and we’re excited to get in on the action. We’ve offered up our handy bottle-free water coolers to help keep attendees hydrated—without the plastic waste. (We’re all about creating a Bottle Free Indy!)

Even our youngest son Sam is giving back to the community. He and his classmates have set out to raise piles and piles of diapers, formula, and other care items for the families of Holy Family Shelter. It’s been a real eye-opening experience for him and his peers, and we’re honored to witness their hard work.

About Your Water

Probably the most common complaint we hear about Indianapolis water has to do with its hardness. Water all over the state is known for being “hard,” and the Indy area is no exception. Most studies agree that “very hard” water contains 180 ppm of dissolved calcium and magnesium minerals. The Indy numbers tend to be a lot higher.

While the average hardness levels weren’t reported in the 2015 Water Quality Report, Indianapolis water showed a solid 300 ppm average in the 2013 Report. Some measurements that year even reached 499 ppm—talk about hard!

Concerns about lead in drinking water are also on the rise in Indianapolis. Unfortunately, these issues really have to be looked at on a case-by-case basis. Because lead can contaminate tap water while it’s traveling in the pipes and plumbing, the treatment plants can’t guarantee that your water will be lead-free at your own tap. The only way to know for certain is to test your water or get a filter that will remove lead right before you turn on the faucet.

In their 2015 Water Quality Report, Citizens Water cites lead levels averaging 8.3 ppb. Considering the limit is 15 ppb, though, the numbers aren’t that reassuring. In fact, the chart even shows one instance (out of 53) where the lead counts were above that actionable limit. The 2013 Report was even worse. The lead average for that year came in at 14 ppb. Again, it’s only an estimate because every home is different, but with the health risks so high, it’s much safer to filter water in-house. That way, any contaminants that might have been picked up by the water can get removed for good.
